Oh man. I don’t know that it’s a real good thing that the ‘Mens Portal’ as they call themselves, AskMen.com, has a writeup on RVs being ‘in’. There must be a bigger bias than I’d been aware of, as I have no idea what they mean by RVs being associated with a ’stinging image’?! But that’s all over, they say. RVs are now cool. Well cool.
Once upon a time, saying the letters “RV” made some people shudder. To them, RVs conjured up a stinging image of little old men perched in oversized eyesores, blocking any traffic moving faster than 10 miles an hour.
Once you put aside your initial bias against them, you begin to understand why RVs are in. If you have the time (and owners usually do), they make a compelling argument for the notion of traveling on your terms.
RVs are increasingly easy to pilot and easy on the eyes — inside and out (a few of us quietly concede the luxury coaches are roomier and better appointed than our own apartments).

Bryan asks in a recent post on one of the bus boards, “How long should a diesel engine be warmed up before driving off?”
Among the many considered answers is Ed’s post with a great explanation about diesel idling in general, from someone who oughta know: Detroit Diesel’s Mike Meloche, Senior Reliabilt Sales Manager:
Your question ranks right up there with the most commonly asked questions we receive. It is also, at least in my opinion, the most commonly misunderstood aspect of the operating parameters of a diesel engine. The short answer is we have always recommended that if the engine is going to be idling, low idle, longer than five minutes, that it be shut off. The reasoning is a little more complicated but without getting into engineering 101 basically the following is the layman’s reasoning.

THIS is camping?!
Nevada RV Resort to Offer ‘Room Service’
Developers of Iron Horse RV Resort, Elko, Nev. — scheduled to open with 103 sites on seven acres in August — are taking the concept of customer service a step further by offering full-menu room service from their adjoining Hilton Garden Inn.
The Hilton Garden Inn’s Great American Grill will serve room service to the adjacent RV resort by employees in golf carts.

“I’m worried about bad guys stealing my fuel. What is the best way to put locks on my tank doors?”
Locks only keep out an “Honest Thief.”
Just take an old hack saw and grind the teeth off. (without overheating the metal)
And grind it razor sharp.
Install it with PL glue around the inside of the fuel opening.
The trail of blood and a DNA match will let you prosicute. [sic]

From the first coach built on a Packard chassis in 1932, through the golden age of bussing, then moving to the famous ‘MC’ series, the best-selling intercity coaches ever in North America, continuing through the newer models begun in the mid-eighties, John Veerkamp has a well-written story of MCI bus models and production history.

“…how many people are looking for ‘bus conversions’?”
All they have seen are at the “RV shows” and the million dollar price tags probably sets off Mr & Mrs Social Security for retirement.
The Question is how do we introduce the traveling set to real bus campers?
If they have NO experience camping or with RVs, it’s hard to explain why a 40 year old coach is preferable to a new Winnibuggy.
Outreach program?? or DARE…
