When strange things happen in electrical circuits and you’re pulling out what little hair you have left chasing down the problems, remember this forum poster’s attempt at poetry:
Weird things abound with a faulty ground.
Ground leads can become corroded and lose contact intermittently. The symptoms can be anything going weird, since the ground is common to the entire circuit, and can affect everything in that circuit.
