FMCSA Commercial Vehicle-Related Regulations
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has an extensive list of commercial Vehicle-Related Regulations that should be of interest to all bus owners, whether commercial or private.
A recurring topic on the bus boards has to do with how much steering play is allowed, and while private coaches are not under the same regulations as commercial vehicles, these safety regulations are something we should heed very closely.
When I was first getting used to my coach it took me awhile to get used to the steering, but I was reminded that like automobiles were a few decades ago, the recirculating-ball type steering is vastly different from the rack-and-pinion found on today’s cars.

There’s more information here than a rainy Saturday will consume, so it might be wise to take some time to review all this. The Appendix G to Subchapter B — Minimum Periodic Inspection Standards is where the detail is found.
