So how smooth does an MCI Bus Conversion ride?
It rides smooooth, baby!
Nick Russell, editor of the famed fulltiming publication, the Gypsy Journal, writes in the December ‘Meandering Down the Highway’ column:
“So how smooth does our MCI bus conversion ride with its air bag suspension? We have our manual DirecWay internet dish mounted on the roof of our bus and access it through a safety hatch over our bed.
When we arrived at the college campus in Bethlehem, Miss Terry was going to set up the dish when she realized she could not find the speed wrench we use to deploy it. Now, if you know my wife, you know that she is the most organized person in the world. Everything has a place, and she can lay her hands on any receipt, brochure, tool or any other item we own in an instant. However, try as she might, she could not find the elusive wrench. Finally giving up, Terry opened the roof hatch to set up the dish and there was the wrench, laying right where she left it on the roof of the bus! It had traveled over ninety miles of winding two lane roads, bumpy interstate highway, and city streets and never fallen off. Oh yeah, the bus rides smooth!”
Nick’s Bus Conversion was the very first I’d ever “seen.” (On the web, in August, 2003) His explanation of the conversion process was fascinating, but daunting. I’d felt the need to do more hands-on work for a long time, and based on his inspiration went to work researching what it meant to build your own motorhome from a converted passenger bus. I’ll spell out the whole story in an upcoming post someday.
