World’s First RV Carved from One Redwood Log

Country Coach Destinations Magazine has a story on the World’s First RV Carved from One Redwood Log.

Charles Kellogg, a popular performer, wanted people to see the magnificent trees and to save these gifts of Nature, as logging was claiming them at a frightful pace. He spread the word by making a fallen redwood into a rolling home.

The driver can hardly see out, and a child or animal could stroll in front of the moving vehicle without the driver knowing it. With no mirrors, there is no way to see what is behind, beside or around you other than leaning far out the window.

The top speed is 5 mph and the solid rubber tires provide no traction, but Mr. Kellogg drove it around the USA four times on his vaudeville tours as a performer who sang (not whistled) bird songs.
